We are pleased to announce, that the International Colourstrings Symposium 2008 will be arranged at the birth place of Colourstrings, the East Helsinki Music Institute, in August 2008. The symposium will provide a unique opportunity to observe the results achieved by the Colourstrings approach to music education and get updated of the latest developments of this method and philosophy.

 

When?

                      Sunday, 3rd August – Sunday, 10th August 2008

Registration starts at 10.00 o’clock on Sunday, the 3rd August.

The opening ceremony takes place at 17.00 on the same day in the Ahti Sonninen concert hall. Please, note that Sunday, 10th August, is also a teaching day.

 

Where?

                      The East Helsinki Music Institute

(”Itä-Helsingin Musiikkiopisto”), address: Kreijarinkuja 4, 00820 Helsinki).

The Institute is situated in the East part of the capital, easy access from the central railway station.

 

Who should attend?

The symposium is designed for string teachers and students responsible for teaching children, and for professors, lecturers and heads of departments responsible for teaching string methodology and pedagogy in universities, conservatories and colleges. In addition, there will be an intensive course for flute teachers and players, which will introduce the successful flute method based on Colourstrings.

 

What will be happening?

Géza Szilvay and the experienced team of Colourstrings authors of the East Helsinki Music Institute will lead this course. The symposium will consist of a series of intensive workshops covering the Colourstrings artistic-pedagogic repertoire – completed and with additional material revised tutor books and the new chamber music series (duos, trios, quartets). There will be sections for violin, viola, ‘cello, double bass and flute. The pupils of the new Colourstrings music primary school (established in 1999) will demonstrate the results achieved by this ‘school within a music school’, in which instrumental group lessons are part of the timetable and individual lessons of the music school are also integrated into the school day. In addition, the symposium will offer participation in rehearsals, matinees and concerts in which children, young artists and internationally renowned performers with a common Colourstrings background will appear. There will also be evening sessions with masterclasses by outstanding soloists.

 

The language used will throughout be English, and a simultaneous French interpretation will be provided.

 

We will offer our participants cheap, nevertheless high level accommodation located in East Helsinki. There are naturally many very high standard hotels downtown Helsinki.
